My Personal Opinion on Drugs
All drugs should be made legal. Just like Alcohol is.
In most towns and cities in Australia a person over the age of 18 can buy a 750ml bottle of a distilled sprint. (Whiskey, rum etc.)
Back when I was somewhere around 12 or 13, the cool thing to do on Saturday nights was to get someone to buy a bottle of whiskey or rum and then drink it down at the local footy oval with your mates.
One night a guy (Sharky) from our group was dared to take a scull from a rum bottle.
Sharky took the dare to far and sculled the whole bottle. When I arrived Sharkey was laying in car park unconscious and vomiting.
One of the girls in our group had ran to the shops and called and an ambulance.
No mobile phones back then.

What’s that got to do with making all drugs legal?
Sharky was one person in a group of between 5 and 8 people.
No one else before or after that, in our group did that.
We all thought is was a very stupid thing to do.
The general word around the school after the incident was the same, dumb idea!
“Just because drugs like heroin or cocaine are legal and available does not mean everyone will go out and try it.”
Some will and some will overdose just like Sharky.
But I wouldn’t and I would guess neither would you!
Just because one idiot drives on the wrong side of the road and causes an accident, we don’t shutdown all roads!
So why stop everyone from enjoying recreational drugs, when it’s only a small percentage who miss use them?
- The majority of drug user’s don’t have a drug problem.
But don’t take my word for it. Look at the evidence yourself.
PS. Sharky went to hospital and his stomach was pumped. He lived to fight another day.
Drug Policy Evidence
The Portuguese drug policy: An unexpected success.
15 years of decriminalized drug policy
- Consumption of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances actually decreased,
- Initial fear that Portugal might turn into a ‘drug-tourist’ destination did not come to pass,
- Number of cases of HIV and AIDS in drug users also decreased,
- The number of deaths by drug overdose stabilized.
The number of deaths by drug overdose in Portugal is actually one of the lowest in all of the European Union.
At just 4.5 per million of inhabitants against the average in the EU of 19.2
How Portugal ended it’s war on drugs.
